The Power of Attention
As we enter another month of Stay at Home Order, how are you holding up? Are you at your wits end? Do you gaze aimlessly out the window reminiscing of the good old days (Summer 2019)? How is the home schooling going? And you thought homework was tough when you were in school. You cannot even understand this stuff.
Where your attention is, the mind will follow. Read that again. What you focus on (give attention to) your mind will lock on to. What have you been giving your attention to???
We are bombarded with Covid, Covid mutated symptoms, confirmed cases, death counts, unemployment, businesses closed……..and now killer bees. Where is one to be safe, both physically and mentally???
How are you unplugging from this chaos? Those who know me, understand I am Life Long Learner. I am always reading, listening to podcasts, watching TedTalks…..
The following practices will help you to break the cacophony of Covid:
MEDITATION Meditation decreases the brain’s beta waves creating a calming affect in the body. You may still have thoughts drifting in and out of your mind. The key is not to attach to the thoughts and run away with them. Research has stated that Meditation reduces stress, controls anxiety, increases concentration, improves sleep to name a few. You can start with 5 minute meditation. I have developed a meditation practice of three times a day, Great resources: Insight Timer App (www.insighttimer.com) & Sura Flow ( https://suraflow.org/).
SELF HYPNOSIS I am learning self-hypnosis in Jim Fortin’s Transformational Coaching Program (www.jimfortin.com). Self-hypnosis helps you reprogram your subconscious mind, home of your habits. The key is to rewire your Brain with “what you want in life”.
BREATHING TECHNIQUES Breathing is another way to calm the mind and body. I use the 1-2-3 Method. Inhale for say a count of 10 (1), hold for a count of 20 (2), and exhale for a count of 30 (3). Exhaling for a count of 30 removes the stale air in the bottom of your lungs. This is a Great Way to increase your Energy.
BINARY BEATS Binary Beats uses two different sound frequencies, one in each ear, to form a single new frequency tone. This exposure to sound waves affects brainwave patterns. For example, low frequency tones promote relaxation. Research has shown Binary Beats sleep better, enter meditative state (Auto Hypnosis), active body’s healing process, and increases concentration. You can find Binary Beats on YouTube.
READING UPLIFTING BOOKS I am an avid reader. I have spent my time reading about personal development, metaphysics, Spiritualism, and more. You can read on the go with your Smartphone or Kindle. Currently, I am reading Love Yourself Like Your Life Depends On It by Kamal Ravikant & The Complete Works of Florence Shinn.
NATURE WALKS Nature has a healing effect. Some believe Nature grounds us, removing negative energy from our bodies. Brisk walks release endorphins in our bodies helping you to feel better, lower stress, and improve moods. I live near a forest, where I walk and bike. One evening, I was surprised to see a few deer.
As Buddha said, “Our Life is shaped by our mind, for we become what we think”.
I challenge you to Rethink the way you are Thinking.
Believe. Be It. Live It. Now.
